We’re partnering with a specialist manufacturer in South Gloucestershire looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to take ownership of their battery technology and charging solutions. This is a high-impact role with real influence; ideal for someone who brings energy, ideas, and isn’t afraid to challenge.

Our client is a specialist UK manufacturer with a long-standing reputation in low-voltage battery charging technology. Since the 1980s, they have evolved alongside advancements in vehicle and battery systems, developing innovative charging solutions that support increasingly complex applications across automotive, telecoms, mobility, and industrial sectors.


With a strong heritage in product innovation and customer support, the business continues to invest in new technologies and product development. Operating as a close-knit SME, they combine technical expertise with a hands-on, customer-focused approach, offering both standard and bespoke solutions alongside servicing and repair capabilities.


The role

You’ll be the go-to expert for battery systems, leading product development, driving innovation, and improving manufacturing. This is hands-on and strategic,owning the roadmap while solving real engineering challenges.

You’ll also play a key role in succession planning, building team capability, and helping scale the business.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead development of battery chargers and power systems
  • Drive innovation across battery performance, charging, and recovery
  • Own the product roadmap and bring new ideas to life
  • Improve manufacturing, testing, and product reliability
  • Solve technical issues across design, production, and field
  • Develop and mentor the team, supporting long-term succession


What we’re looking for:

  • Strong background in battery technologies (lead-acid, AGM, lithium, etc.)
  • Experience with charging systems / low-voltage power electronics
  • Hands-on, practical engineering mindset
  • Someone who can challenge, innovate, and move at pace
  • Leadership experience within a manufacturing or SME environment
  • Ambition to step into a future Director role
