The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Prototype Engine Build Fitter to support a leading automotive engineering programme based in Whitley.

Working within a prototype and development environment, you'll be responsible for the assembly, strip, rework and inspection of prototype engine units, supporting vehicle development activities and ensuring builds are completed to the highest quality standards.

This is a hands-on contract role suited to experienced Engine Builders, Mechanical Fitters, Prototype Technicians or Vehicle Technicians with a strong mechanical background.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, strip and rework prototype engine units in line with engineering specifications
• Carry out engine teardown, inspection and fault-finding activities
• Support warranty investigation and component analysis activities
• Install and validate engine instrumentation
• Support engineering changes and modifications throughout the build process
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues using structured problem-solving techniques
• Complete build records, quality documentation and inspection reports
• Work closely with Engineering, Test Operations and Prototype Build teams
• Support programme milestones and vehicle development activities
• Maintain high standards of quality, safety and housekeeping

Experience Required

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification
• Time-served apprenticeship within automotive, motorsport or engineering
• Previous experience in engine build, mechanical assembly or prototype build activities
• Strong understanding of automotive systems and quality standards
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Experience using measuring and inspection equipment
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Able to work within a fast-paced development environment
• Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

• Prototype or development vehicle experience
• Engine instrumentation experience
• Experience supporting test or validation programmes
• Automotive OEM, motorsport or high-performance vehicle background
