The role
As a Machinist, you will be responsible for operating specialist machining equipment to produce high-quality components whilst maintaining excellent standards of safety, accuracy, and workmanship. Working closely with production and technical teams, you will support manufacturing activities, carry out quality checks, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the machining function.
Key responsibilities:
- Operate CNC machinery and other machining equipment safely and accurately
- Carry out grinding and finishing operations to achieve required tolerances and quality standards
- Complete material preparation, cleaning, and finishing activities
- Operate specialist equipment including grinders, wire saws, and cut-off wheels
- Conduct in-process inspections and quality checks
- Identify and report defects, deviations, or equipment issues
- Support continuous improvement activities across the manufacturing process
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment
What we're looking for:
- Experience within machining, manufacturing, or a similar hands-on technical environment
- Previous experience operating CNC machinery
- Experience using grinding equipment and precision finishing processes
- Understanding of machining processes, measurements, and tolerances
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- A reliable, organised, and safety-conscious approach to work
- A willingness to learn, develop new skills, and grow with the business
Desirable experience:
- Experience programming or working with G-code
- Experience operating specialist cutting or material preparation equipment
- Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards and inspection techniques
- Experience within precision engineering, automotive, aerospace, metals, or advanced manufacturing environments
Location
Primarily based at the company's Birmingham site in Tyseley, with occasional travel to a second Birmingham location as required. Candidates should be flexible and willing to work across both sites depending on business needs.
